The late night music and roaring crowds will soon be back — but this time, in the fall.
Summerfest, previously a two week-long festival in the summer, will span three weekends in September this year. And that’s not the only change.
From COVID-19 to worker shortages, Summerfest has had to make some adjustments. It’s hard to keep them all straight.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re heading out to Summerfest in September:
The basics: When and where is Summerfest
When: Noon to midnight, September 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18.
Where: Maier Festival Park, 200 N. Harbor Drive, Milwaukee.
What: More than 800 bands on 11 stages over nine days.
If you purchased a Summerfest 2020 weekday admission ticket, it’s valid for the 2021 festival with entry before 4 p.m. on either Thursdays or Fridays. It permits access to all ground stages with the exception of the American Family Insurance Amphitheater.
Here’s the tickets breakdown:
Seniors 62 and older and children ages 3 to 10 can get in for free, but due to the age restrictions, these tickets can only be obtained at Summerfest ticket windows during operating hours.
UScellular 3-day pass: $57.
6-day pass: $75.
UScellular Power Pass (9-day pass for the whole festival): $100.
BMO Harris Pavilion reserved seating (includes general admission): $30 and up.
Level Up Viewing Deck at the Miller Lite Oasis (includes general admission and two drinks): Prices vary based on the artist.
American Family Insurance Amphitheater: Artists playing at the amphitheater require an additional ticket with prices varying by demand.
Exit and re-entry
Wristbands are available from noon to 6:30 p.m. daily, and will remain valid for that day. No re-entries will be allowed after 7 p.m.

Summerfest parking and transportation
Parking: Summerfest lots open starting at 9 a.m. and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Parking in the premier A-lot will cost $40 per day. Parking in the preferred P-lot costs $25 per day.
To fill the MCTS void, Milwaukee World Festival Inc. has lined up a private transit company, Atlanta-based Vectour Group, to provide bus shuttles to and from Summerfest during the nine days of the festival. Round-trip fare, at $12, will be available via prepaid tickets at Summerfest.com, or on exiting the bus, paying on arrival at a kiosk. Riders will get a wristband that allows them to make the return trip. (Without the wristband, riders will have to pay the $12 fare again.) Summerfest says it’s requiring cashless payments — debit or credit cards only.
The Hop: Take The Hop streetcar northbound from the Intermodal Station or southbound from most other stops, including Burns Commons, Cathedral Square or City Hall. Get off at the Third Ward stop, which drops off a few blocks away from Summerfest on St. Paul Avenue between Broadway and Milwaukee Street. During all nine nights of the Summerfest run, the Hop will have extended service, running until 1 a.m. each night. Find details at thehopmke.com.
Uber: Uber is the official ride-share provider of Summerfest. There’s an “Uber Zone” right outside the Mid-Gate at East Chicago and North Jackson streets. Riders can enter the Rider Lounge at Chicago Street while waiting for their ride.
All bags are subject to inspection prior to entering the Summerfest grounds. No backpacks or bags larger than 9 by 10 by 12 inches will be allowed on the grounds. If you decide to bring in a backpack or a larger bag, you will be instructed to empty the contents into a clear bag provided by Summerfest in order to be admitted.
COVID testing at Summerfest: If you arrive at Summerfest without proof of vaccine or a negative COVID test, rapid COVID-19 testing will be available at the North and South entrance gates. The wait time for results is estimated at 15 to 20 minutes. Tickets, at $25 per test, are available at the ticket windows at those gates. Attendees can preregister for the tests at forms.gle/McayvF4STwvhPvY16. Those younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the form. (Summerfest says that, if you test positive, you’ll be asked to leave the grounds.)
